Sustainable Summer Picnic
Chiara Lippke
Summer means it’s time for garden parties, picnics in the park, and brunch dates – and we are here for it. As we are celebrating Plastic Free July, we’d love to introduce you to our new Kitchen Accessories. They are the perfect essentials for a lovely summer gathering and a great addition to your reusable items. Let me show you how you and your friends can host the most beautiful and sustainable summer picnic.
Preparations
What can’t be missing at a picnic? Snacks, of course. When you go shopping, make sure to bring your own shopping bag so you won’t need to get a paper or plastic bag at the store. You might also want to watch out when choosing the goods: Buy local and seasonal foods, as those don’t require a long transport to your grocery store.
Made with love
Even if it seems easier to shop for pre-packed snacks or already chopped fruit salads, just think about all the plastic waste you’ll have to dispose of after your picnic. It’s a clear nope. The planet (and your wallet) will give you a big thumbs up if you prepare your snacks at home. Pack them in your glass or plastic containers or wrap them in reusable beeswax wraps.
Keep it cool
Summer’s hot, so our drinks must be cold. Two ways to keep your drinks cool all day long are to either bring them in a cool bag or fill it in an insulated flask. The cool bag will work for a few hours, but the isolated flasks will hold the temperature of your pre-cooled drink all day long.
Setup
When setting up our summer picnic we’re bringing: a big picnic blanket, our new Blessed Cotton Napkins, Ohui Napkin Rings, stainless steel straws, glasses or mugs, and some plates. When bringing finger food, you are just fine with cotton napkins. To make your picnic comfier, you can add colorful cushions. Decorate with flowers and arrange the food on wooden boards to make it picture-perfect.
Live Aloha with us
Sometimes, we just need to remind ourselves that every small action counts when making our lives more eco-friendly. Changing habits can be challenging, but it’ll be worth it.
Don’t forget to sign up for our Plastic Free July challenge, as we will donate €1 for every participant to Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii.
What are you waiting for? Plan your sustainable summer picnic now and invite your loved ones for a fun and Aloha-filled day in the great outdoors.
Love
Chiara
