What it means to be a woman

Every year on March 8th, PURELEI celebrates International Women's Day. As a successful, female-driven brand with a workforce composed of 80% women, we understand the power of women. However, we're also aware of the prejudices and disadvantages that women still face in society today.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) publishes an annual Global Gender Gap Report, which sheds light on gender equality worldwide. According to the 2023 report, the gender gap is closed to 68.4%. At this rate, the report suggests it will take another 131 years to achieve full gender equality. One hundred and thirty-one years.

Has there been significant improvement for women in the past generations? Yes! But women are not yet fully equal anywhere in the world—though Iceland tops the report at 91.2% and Germany ranks sixth with 81.5%. Want to learn more? Here's the link to the Global Gender Gap Report 2023.

What it means to be a woman

These numbers underscore why International Women's Day is so important. Why it matters to us at PURELEI. Because, while every day should be International Women's Day, let's still use March 8th to celebrate ourselves as women and the women around us.

That's why, for World Women's Day 2024, we're shining the spotlight on a group of women who share their stories with us, hoping to inspire both us personally and hopefully you too. Women like you and me, who, like all of us, have faced and are facing challenges in various ways. We wanted to learn how they deal with challenges and what it means to them to be a woman.

Meet women who inspire us

What does it mean to you to be a woman? Let us know in the comments. We're very curious.

Team PURELEI sends you lots of love and firmly believes in you and your abilities, no matter what you want to achieve. Don't let anything stop you. You go, girl!

P.S.: For International Women's Day 2024, we realeased our EmpowHER necklace, which is not only perfect for bold looks but you also support a good cause through its purchase. Because we donate 100% of the net proceeds from the EmpowHER necklace to the Hawai'i State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which fights against domestic violence and supports victims.
