Lake Como Travel Tips
Chiara Lippke
We’ve been to Lake Como for the photoshoot of the Iconic Collection. Because which place could fit better than this iconic lake in Northern Italy? Its serene natural beauty, picturesque little towns, and glamorous villas attract tourists and celebrities alike. It is always worth a visit and offers you many activities and things to explore – as well as live the Italian la dolce vita. Curious? Here are our top 5 travel tips for Lake Como.
TAKE A BOAT RIDE ON LAKE COMO
One of the best ways to enjoy those stunning landscapes of Lake Como is to board a boat and marvel at the shores, grand villas and surrounding mountains. Treat yourself to a private boat ride and feel like an iconic Hollywood diva as you lounge in the pretty wooden speed boat. Ship ahoy!
TRY APERITIVO
No holiday in Italy without aperitivo! When you get an aperitivo it will be an aperitif drink, like an Aperol Spritz, accompanied by tasty Mediterranean snacks. Aperitivo is an early evening drink meant to “open the appetite” before dinner. Most venues offer aperitivo between 5PM and 8PM – so go for a stroll and find yourself a bar, have an aperitivo with stunning views of the lake, and take in the famous la dolce vita.
GO HIKING
As Lake Como is surrounded by mountains, it is perfect for outdoor activities. You can go hiking, rock climbing, or canyoning, depending on how adventurous you are. If you want to go hiking you can choose between many trails leading up to the mountains, offering you the most stunning views of the lake from above. So don’t forget to pack your hiking boots. Since the weather can change quickly at Lake Como you should also bring an umbrella or raincoat – just to be safe.
VISIT STUNNING VILLAS
There are so many spectacular villas at Lake Como. If you love architecture, history and lush gardens you can spend several hours sightseeing. The most famous one might be Villa del Balbianello as it was the setting for movie scenes of James Bond Casino Royale and Star Wars. If you love art you should visit Villa Carlotta with its vast botanical garden and art museum. Visiting those estates is also perfect for rainy days.
TAKE THE FUNICULAR FROM COMO TO BRUNATE
When you want to watch a beautiful sunset after a long day of sightseeing you should go up to the terraces of Brunate. This scenic mountain village can be reached by a funicular train, starting at the lakefront’s east end. You already have amazing views while you ride up, which will only be topped by the marvelous outlook from Brunate’s terraces towards Como and its lake.
We're sure the Iconic Collection will accompany you on all your iconic adventures, whether to Lake Como or any other place in the world.
Buon viaggio!
