Sustainable Christmas Tips
Laura Hock
Aloha fellow sustainability warrior,
The festive season is approaching and while many of us refer to it as the most wonderful time of the year, it is also a time that has a huge impact on our environment. Mass consumption, Christmas wrappings, commuting so see your family and how we celebrate has an enormous carbon footprint. But it doesn't have to be that way, and there are many things we can actually do to celebrate Christmas in a more sustainable way. Here's a few tips & tricks to consider:
- Sustainable Christmas Menu
What we eat has a huge impact on our carbon footprint. Plan a vegetarian menu and enjoy your Christmas dinner with a good conscience!
- Sustainable Christmas Gifts
Our Advent Calendars champion when it comes to sustainability. But we're proud to state that we have many more sustainable products in our shop, and we continue to invest in sustainability initiatives. Our Lifestyle Collection styles too make awesome sustainable gifts: The sustainable, on-trend clothing line with cool cuts and relaxed fits launched mid-November, and is GOTS & Oeko-Tex certified. The best part? They're unisex and suit both men and women!
- Donate
To live Aloha also means to give back and to live in gratitude. I am the most excited about the fact that we’re offering a variety of sustainable Christmas gifts, and I am even more excited that it is growing year after year. Still, if you didn’t find anything you like, the perfect Christmas present doesn’t necessarily have to be a physical one. Donate to a charity in someone’s name or advocate sustainability topics, and give the gift of a warm heart and Aloha.
- Sustainable Packaging
Reuse, recycle or don’t even wrap your presents whenever you can. There are so many sustainable DIY ideas for Christmas packaging on platforms like Pinterest that look amazing and make your presents even more special.
Personally, I love to collect old newspapers and wrap my Christmas packaging with it, playing with the words printed on it, and it has a cool vintage vibe to it. I would love to hear about your ideas in the comment section!
- Eco Christmas Markets
Shop local and support your regional small businesses.Ttype into Google, or Ecosia, an eco-friendly alternative search engine, if you live near an eco Christmas market! It’s also a nice day trip idea for a Christmas adventure.
Whatever you're going with, make sure to address issues of sustainability and advocate fighting climate change whenever possible. I'm counting on you this year! Together, we can make a difference.
Sending lots of love and Aloha
Lauri
