Upcycling Tips & Tricks
Laura Hock
There are so many benefits to upcycling!
We're saving materials from landfill, we’re reducing what goes into landfill by preventing things from being thrown away quickly and we're creating one-of-a-kind items that are completely unique. Least of all, it is a fun and easy way to get creative and live Aloha at home!
Let’s go create very cool stuff from old stuff – I promise: The results will amaze you.
PURELEI Packaging Tool Box
Let’s start with our classic PURELEI packaging, and hey – it's plastic free!
All you need is ...
- PURELEI Jewelry Boxes (as many as you like!)
- Eco-friendly Adhesive Tape or Glue
- Wrapping Paper or Tissue Paper
- Scissors
Collect as many jewelry boxes as you can find, empty and arrange them to see how it looks. Then, glue the boxes together and allow them to dry for a couple of minutes.
Always wondered what to do with leftover wrapping paper? Here we go! Personalize your newly created toolbox with colored paper – or get creative and paint them! You'll be amazed and pleased at how well (and fast!) this method works the first time you try it.
PURELEI Lavender Bag
These ones are especially fun to make and fun to give! We will upcycle a super common PURELEI item that you most likely already have, but probably never really use: Our jewelry sachets.
All you need is ...
- PURELEI Jewelry Bag
- Dried Organic Lavender Flowers
Prepare your stuffing, fill the sachets and tie them up – done! If you want, add rice to the dried lavender flowers (I recommend one part lavender with one part rice).
With a subtle scent, the lavender sachets keep your clothes smelling fine and fresh with zero extra work (plus, it’s organic, yay!).
Pro tip: The ever-popular lavender bags make awesome Mother’s Day gifts!
Bee-friendly Tin Can Upcycling
Wondering how to help save our bees? Here's a quick and easy way for creating a safe and cozy home for our humming neighbors waking up for spring!
All you need is ...
- Bee-friendly Tin Can Upcycling DIY
- Old Tin Can
- Bee-friendly Hollow Stems or Bamboo Canes
With the launch of our Vintage Collection in January we were able to raise money to support an amazing cause: To help save our bees!
So I thought it would be fun to include an easy upcycling project that helps our bees too! You can find bee-friendly hollow stems or bamboo canes in any hardware store or on the internet.
Simply put them in an old tin can (and decorate if you like!) and make sure the stems are tight and don’t move to protect your new fluffy neighbors. When ready, hang in a sheltered location and provide water if you can.
I hope you enjoyed our upcycling projects as much as I did! Let me know if you liked it and share your thoughts in the comments below.
My advice: Always ask yourself "What else could you make out of it?“ before throwing an old object away or when you come across an unused product. Upcycling is a great way to reuse materials and reduce our footprint and, in these times especially, a fun quarantine activity. Stay safe everyone!
Love
